Details

What is possible for you at this retreat depends on what you put into it. Do what you can to set up a "gold" version of this retreat as described below. You won't regret it!

PRAYER
  • Spiritually create your retreat with God. Setting up your own retreat might seem daunting. But God knows what He wants for you and how to achieve it. So start with Him and return to Him along the way!
    • Ask God: Do You want me to attend this retreat? 
    • Ask God: What do You want it to look like? Whom do You want me to invite? Where do You want me to hold it?
    • Ask God: What do you have in store for me at this retreat? What do you want me to pray for?
    • Record your answers and keep them handy.
  • Be alert (watch) for opposition and pray against it regularly. Review your direction from God to strengthen your mind against it. And try one of the daily prayers below. If you aren’t familiar with these, start with the “Short daily prayer.”

LODGING
  • Ideally your lodging: 
    • has good internet access, 
    • is disconnected from your daily life, and 
    • is near natural environments such as wilderness, mountains, fields, ponds or creeks, a garden or a park.
  • Plan for an early check-in (1 pm if possible) and late check out (noon). It is possible, but not ideal, to delay check-in until 3 pm if needed.
  • Lodging options to consider:
    • Rent a condo or a small private rental such as those on AirBnB. Split the cost among all the attendees.
    • Ask to borrow someone’s cabin or vacation home.
    • Ask your family to go camping or visit close friends/family while you hold the retreat in your home.
    • Swap homes with another attendee. Both women hold the retreat in one home while both families stay in the other.
    • Use a master bed/bath in your own home, with strict quarantine-like boundaries so that you can have private, uninterrupted time during the retreat.
  • Plan to disconnect from every aspect of your daily life during the retreat. This is important! The adversary will attempt to distract and disturb you in every way possible. Instead, you are going to be deliberate about clearing away distractions and disturbances so that all of your mind and heart is open to God.

MEALS
  • Plan & prepare meals ahead of time. Choose meals that require only 10 min. prep and clean-up per meal during the retreat. That is all the time allotted for meal prep in the schedule!
    • You will need 3 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 3 dinners and nutritious snacks.
  • Participate in Zoom calls during meal times to hear announcements and schedule updates.
    • Optional: small, 4-6 person Zoom break out sessions with other retreat participants during meal-times and evening social times.

ACTIVITIES
  • You get to plan free-time activities. Pray about which activities will be best for you. Consider activities such as:
    • Nature walks, hikes, or meditation
    • Rest, naps, pampering, or relaxation
    • 1 or 2 movies from the following list: Pride and Prejudice, Anna and the King, The Help, The Greatest Showman, Cinderella (Disney 2015)
    • Social time with other attendees
  • Avoid additional screen time, activities from your daily life, persons not attending the event, and man-made environments.

FOCUS
  • For the duration of the retreat, focus on connecting with God, receiving the life He has for you, and restoring your soul. It is just four days, and He can do wonders when you let Him prevail over your experience!
  • Avoid everything else. For example:
    • Disconnect from your daily life for the duration of the retreat. 
    • Isolate yourself from all people and activities not involved in the retreat. 
    • Turn off phone notifications, calls, and social media during the event.
  • For safety, set your phone to allow one emergency contact to notify you. Choose someone who can distinguish a true emergency and honor your intentions for disconnecting during this retreat.
