Fear Is a Sin

Fear is a sin; it separates us from God and His gifts of love and truth. So, what do you fear? How is fear blocking you from the truth and light that is inside of you? Are you willing to let go of fear and stop believing it, in exchange for something better? ❧

Hi! What I’m sharing today is about fear and specifically that I believe fear is a sin. Let me break that down a little because usually when I talk about sin people react and look uncomfortable. I think that might be because they don't have the same definition of sin that I do. 😉

I believe that sin is anything that blocks me from God, — anything that causes death or the opposite of life, anything that brings darkness instead of light, anything that moves toward lies instead of truth, anything that blocks me from God and God's love.

In that respect, fear is a sin. It comes from the devil (meaning Satan, or the enemy of God). It does not come from God. It does not bring anything that is life-giving, helpful, inspiring, bright, loving or joyful. To examine that conclusion I did a thought experiment. I thought of cases where fear could be helpful. After I examined each case I ended up concluding, No! Indeed, there is no place where fear is more helpful than its opposite, than love and truth and clarity. In fact then, fear is unhelpful and it’s always going to be a poorer choice than love, faith or courage. I encourage you to do the same thought experiment to see if you arrive at the same answer. Please share your thoughts with me.

Once I decided that fear is a sin, fear changed for me. Now
when fear pops up, I say "Oh fear! I recognize you, and I choose something different. There's a better way. You're not going to get me what I want." Then I can walk down a different path, or I can choose to believe something else.

Usually fear comes with lies. Choosing to believe fear usually means choosing to believe a lie. Both are sins and they block me from God. Alternatively, I can choose truth. I can figure out what that truth is and choose to believe it instead. I can ask Jesus to take the fear away because I want light and truth and I want to be free.

There are a couple scriptures I like about this topic. One is 2 Timothy 1:7 (I have the King James version), "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” All three of those attributes are more powerful than fear and move us toward the life that we want.

The other scripture is 1 John 4:18. It says, "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casteth out fear." We can choose the love of God instead of fear.

So my question for you today is, "What do you fear? How is fear blocking you from the truth and light that is inside of you? Are you willing to let go of that fear and stop believing it in exchange for something better?"

Keep shining!
