Personal Revelation

I believe that God will talk to each of us, about anything that concerns us. This includes confirming the direction of our church leaders, as I experienced during the sustaining of Russel M. Nelson as President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. If you participated in that sustaining, what was your experience? If you didn’t, what is your experience talking with God? Do you receive revelation from him?

Video transcript (edited):

It takes me awhile to make these videos, upload them, and create this written transcript. So for me, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints met just ten days ago for its April General Conference. Today I want to share my feelings about that Conference, in particular the sustaining of our new prophet, President Russel M. Nelson.

General Conference is a worldwide convening of every congregation in the entire world. My family watches it in our living room, via internet. We listen as the leaders of my church talk and teach us about Jesus Christ and His will for us. It's fulfilling, and would you believe it's ten hours? Ten hours of listening to men and women talk about God. It sounds like a lot and yet it goes by fast. By the time it’s over, I always feel a little bit sad, as if it’s ended too soon. (I didn't always feel that way. I began to enjoy it once I gained a testimony of Jesus Christ.)

Recently the president of my church passed away, so in this last General Conference Russell M. Nelson was sustained as the next president of my church. And the thing is, I've not felt connected to him in the past. Fifteen men lead my church at the highest level. They all have different personalities and so some of them I connect with more than others. President Nelson was one of those others for me.

So I was nervous about him being the new president of my church. But as I watched the solemn assembly, in which he was sustained to his new position, I was filled with the Holy Ghost. I felt God, via the Holy Ghost, changing my heart. I felt so much love for president Nelson! To me it was a testimony and a witness that he is the man God wants to lead the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints right now. I'm grateful for that witness.

I believe in personal revelation and that's what this was. I believe that God will talk to me about anything that affects me. He will witness His will for me, to me. I don't just have to trust.  And it's powerful to have this witness for myself.

I have a picture in my living room of the Sacred Grove, which is a grove of trees where Joseph Smith prayed and asked God which church to join. God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him and told him not to join any church, but that he would be restoring a church for Jesus Christ on the earth. To me, the Sacred Grove represents personal revelation. It reminds me that I can ask God. I can receive revelation directly from Him. He will talk to me. About anything.

This principle is true about President Nelson as well. In fact, in his talk in General Conference, he emphasized that each of us needs to be talking with God and receiving revelation ourselves. I think he even said “do the hard work necessary” to receive daily revelation and guidance from God.

For those of you who are members of my church, what was your experience during that solemn assembly? What was your experience with President Russell M. Nelson? And maybe also with other presidents of our church? For those of you who aren’t members of my church, what is your experience talking with God? Do you receive direct revelation from him? I believe He will talk to you one-on-one, personally, every day, if you approach Him and ask.

That's all for today.

Keep shining!
